EDITION 2014

Theme: “Us”

The first edition of the festival took place between 3 and 6 April 2014. Its first objective was to extend the photograph to the interior of the country with a quality proposal, which included the presence of prominent representatives of local and international photography. In that first experience the theme of the festival was “Us”, betting on the reflection on Latin American identity and daily life through photography.

The curator of the festival was the Spanish Alejandro Castellote and selected authors from Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay for the central exhibitions of the festival.

Selected Artists: Angélica Dass, Marcos López, Musuk Nolte, Veronica Marquez, Alejandro Chaskielberg, Erika Bernhardt and Geovanny Verdezoto.

CURATOR

Alejandro Castellote

In 1982 he began working as a photography curator. From 1985 to 1996 he has been director of the Photography Area of ​​the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, where he has organized the FOCO Festival (Contemporary Photography in Madrid) in its 5 editions, and has been responsible for programming exhibitions, workshops, seminars and other activities for 12 years. In 1987 he created the Minerva Photography Room for young authors at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.

He has been artistic director of the PHotoEspaña International Photography Festival (Madrid) in its first three editions -1998 to 2000-. From 2001 to 2004 he was responsible for the contemporary photography section at Editorial Lunwerg, where he published among other things OPEN MAPS. Latin American Photography 1991-2002 and Latent Silences by Manel Esclusa.

He is a corresponding academic of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Madrid. He regularly writes about photography, participates in juries, gives theoretical workshops and collaborates as a critic in various national and foreign media. He has been a content advisor for C Photo Magazine in London, United Kingdom and has curated the exhibition C on Cities for the X Venice Architecture Biennale in 2006. Currently working as a freelance, he is curator for Latin America of the Photoquai Biennial organized by the Quai de Branly Museum in Paris and professor in the Master of Photography at the EFTI School in Madrid. In 2006 he was awarded the Bartolomé Ros Prize for the best professional career in Spanish photography.
